I came from a family of entrepreneurs and liked the idea of charting my own course. I joined Vistage eight years into running my first company, which provided IT professional services to private and public sector clients. That’s when I realized that I didn’t know all I needed to know about running a business.
Through the meetings with my Chair, my peer group and talented speakers, I truly experienced “the power of Vistage.” Had I not been a Vistage member, I know I would not have had the knowledge or been prepared to respond when my company started getting unsolicited offers to be acquired. Vistage prepared me for the exit. I’m not sure every CEO realizes it can take years to prepare your company for sale.
After a successful exit in 2018, a fellow CEO told me that he thought I would make a great Vistage Chair. His statement struck me. I thought: “Well, why didn’t I think of that?”
It felt right. So, I reconnected with Vistage and launched my CEO group in 2019. In 2021, I launched a Key Executive group.
I believe in the power of Vistage so much that I joined as a member again in 2023 to help with CyberRx, the cybersecurity company I currently run. What I love about being a member is the incredible perspectives I gain from other CEOs around similar challenges and opportunities. We’re all CEOs, and we are all being challenged and held accountable by each other. It also helps me grow as a Chair.
Today, I run CyberRx, I have my Vistage practice, I’m part of a Vistage peer group, and I recently launched another business based on a passion of mine: carrot cakes!
My husband and I take a big transatlantic cruise every year — no cars, no land, just the high seas and pure relaxation. We enjoy all kinds of travel, good food, theater and time with friends.
I’m still working hard and playing hard, but I’m glad I took time to decompress and reflect on what I wanted to retire to. And the truth is, I still want to be involved in business, and I don’t see that changing. Being a Chair is not just something I do. It is part of who I am.
